Be entertained, be educated, be moved with nine short films, from the love of two women spanning six decades in Wings, through to a modern online VR take on dating in A Wider Screen. Love is also the theme of Anna, short-listed for BAFTA and the Palme d’Or, which shows us the hardships of seeking a second chance as a single mother in war-torn Ukraine. The same war is the subject of the documentary Water Under Fire in Europe’s Forgotten War; the unlikely humanitarians providing a vital supply to those on Ukraine’s front line. In Still Here, an ex-dancer uses past glory to help him through a difficult time. Fifteen exposes the miscarriages of justice on our soil, with a harrowing impression of the wrongfully imprisoned Guildford Four. The embarrassment of sexual experimentation early in a relationship is exposed in the short comedy Plunge, while in This England life in a new land is seen through the eyes of an anxious young immigrant girl. The misfortune of a found fortune befalls two young boys in Jackpot and a dark comedy Pink Pool, looking at popular culture, rounds up our selection.
